Dr. Rajesh Das
Dr. Rajesh Das is an Officer in Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) at the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India (ALIMCO), an organisation dedicated to providing assistive devices and rehabilitation solutions for persons with disabilities. His professional role in the prosthetics and orthotics sector connects with the development, fitting and delivery of assistive solutions that support mobility, functional independence and improved quality of life. The integration of digital technologies, including 3D scanning, computer-aided design and 3D printing, offers new opportunities to develop personalised orthoses and prostheses. His participation can highlight emerging technologies and their potential to make assistive devices more accessible, comfortable and affordable.
Presentation topic : “ 3D Printing & 3D Scanning solutions in Orthotics and Prosthetics: Advancing Patient-Specific Design, Digital Manufacturing and Affordable Rehabilitation Solutions”.
Abstract:
3D scanning and 3D printing are transforming orthotics and prosthetics through personalised digital workflows. 3D scanning captures accurate anatomical measurements and surface geometry, enabling customised device design using computer-aided design (CAD). 3D printing converts these digital models into patient-specific prosthetic sockets, orthoses, braces and assistive devices with improved fit, comfort and design flexibility. Integrating these technologies can reduce manual fabrication time, minimise material wastage and support localised, cost-effective manufacturing. Challenges include material durability, clinical validation, functional assessment and accessibility. Together, 3D scanning and printing offer promising opportunities to advance rehabilitation, mobility and independence for persons with disabilities.
