Dr. Chinmoy Das
Prof. Dr. Chinmoy Das is a senior orthopaedic surgeon, academician, and medical educator based in Guwahati, Assam. He serves as Professor and Head of the Department of Orthopaedics and Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation (PMR) at Pragjyotishpur Medical College and Hospital, Assam. With over three decades of professional experience, he has made significant contributions to orthopaedic practice, medical education, and professional collaboration, particularly in Northeast India.
Dr. Das is actively associated with the Indian Orthopaedic Rheumatology Association (IORA), where he has held leadership responsibilities, and is a Life Member of the Indian Orthopaedic Association (IOA). His professional interests include musculoskeletal disorders, orthopaedic rehabilitation, osteoporosis, orthobiologics, and advances in patient care. Through his academic leadership, clinical experience, and engagement with professional organisations, he continues to contribute to the advancement of orthopaedics, research, and collaborative healthcare initiatives in India.
Presentation topic - “ The 4th dimension biodegradable Patient Specific Customised implants ".
Abstract :
The integration of 3D printing, advanced biomaterials and patient-specific design is opening new possibilities in orthopaedic reconstructive surgery. Biodegradable patient-customised implants represent the fourth dimension of personalised implant technology, designed to provide temporary structural support while gradually degrading as natural tissue regenerates. By combining medical imaging, computer-aided design and additive manufacturing, these implants can be tailored to individual anatomy, defect geometry and clinical requirements. This presentation will explore emerging biodegradable materials, implant design strategies, bioresorption mechanisms, tissue regeneration and potential clinical applications. It will also address biocompatibility, mechanical performance, regulatory challenges and future opportunities for personalised, regenerative orthopaedic solutions.
