Dr. Souptick Chanda

Dr. Souptick Chanda obtained his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from IIEST (erstwhile Bengal Engineering College, Shibpur), India, and completed his master's degree in the same discipline from the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. He subsequently worked in two prominent corporate organizations, gaining hands-on experience in CAD modelling, analysis, and product lifecycle management. He completed his doctoral study in Biomechanics at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India. Subsequently, he joined NTU Singapore as a post-doctoral research fellow, where he worked on virtual deformation modelling of human pelvic anatomy for digital rectal examination training. Dr. Chanda is presently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biosciences and Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati, India. He received the prestigious Fulbright-Nehru Academic and Professional Excellence Fellowship to carry out research at Harvard Medical School, Boston. His research interests include biomechanics, implant design and optimization, surgical simulation, additive manufacturing, and artificial intelligence-assisted biomedical applications.

Presentation topic :  “ Additively manufactured bone scaffolds and AI-assisted detection and quantification of hemoperitoneum”.

Abstract:

This talk presents two distinct research directions addressing clinically relevant challenges through advanced engineering approaches. The first focuses on the design and additive manufacturing of porous Ti6Al4V bone scaffolds using architected lattice structures, with emphasis on their structural, biological, and biomineralization characteristics for potential bone replacement and implant applications. The second focuses on the development of an AI-assisted framework for automated detection, localization, and quantification of hemoperitoneum from medical imaging, integrating image processing and deep learning techniques. Together, these studies demonstrate the potential of computational modelling, additive manufacturing, and artificial intelligence in advancing biomedical technologies.
